What is it?
The Work That Reconnects is a body of work initiated by activist, author and buddhist scholar Joanna Macy. Its central purpose is to help people connect to their love and pain for this world so we can prepare to take part in its healing. It bring us back into relationship with each other and with the self-healing powers in the web of life. This journey motivates and empowers us to reclaim our lives, our communities, and our planet from corporate and colonial rule. It helps us to transform despair and overwhelm into inspired, collaborative action.
How does it work?
The Work follows a spiral of practices: together we move through exercises, sharing and rituals to build resilience in coping with the current state of our world. We create a safe space to connect to our own emotional and thought responses and experience the power of sharing this in community with others.
In this session we focus on the third part of the Spiral: Seeing with New Eyes.
We will move through exercises that can help shift our perception of the current reality as it is true for us today. Our Pain for the World (the previous part) arises from our connectivity with everyone and everything. We shift to a new way of seeing ourselves in relation to our world and a new way of understanding our power. In the exercise 'Widening Circles' we explore different views and positions about issues that important to us, opening our minds to progressively larger contexts and to widening circles of identity. From here, we can get new inspiration and access to new insights in how we want to move forward.
In the following weeks, you have the opportunity to experience the fourth part of the Spiral: Going Forth. Though it is not necessary to take part in all the sessions, you are encouraged to do so as it will give you the best chance to experience The Work that Reconnects as it is intended.

What do other people say?
“Eveline held a really beautiful space to facilitate this work, we were able to safe while exploring these tender topics. The group setting, even amongst 'strangers', is so beneficial - sharing, being witnessed and heard as we work through this. Saying that, there was no pressure to open up beyond our comfort levels. This feels like important work that we must all keep doing.”
“The workshop with Eveline was a valuable opportunity to open up to our deep connection with the world and one another, through expressing our gratitude and grief at this time of change. Eveline's assured facilitation created a supportive space for us to share and connect.”
“'The work that reconnects-online' was a beautiful opportunity to spend time sharing with others in an open and honest safe space. Having time to see and be seen, hear and be heard gave me a sense of grounding and calm. It was a time to express some emotions and allow myself to let go a little. I believe that we all innately need and want connection and that open-hearted connection leads to transformation. It is a testament to Eveline that even in a short 3-hour online session I had a really meaningful experience with the other participants.”
“This course was an invaluable way to begin sharing thoughts and experiences relating to climate breakdown and the ecological emergency we face. I completed this course at time when the world is battling coronavirus and normal life is paused. As we self-isolate in our homes and have the time to stop and reflect on life, the online format of this course facilitated a powerful and emotional human connection. By sharing my thoughts and hearing the experiences of others, I found some renewed hope for the future and sensed there is a better way to live and appreciate the present.”
